Meat on the Bone: World Cup of Insurance
Mbappe. Messi. Kane. Lloyds. Allianz. Berkshire. Wait, what?
If you've been following the World Cup this year, those first names will definitely ring a bell. If you're in the insurance industry, the last three will as well.
All behemoths in their own right, the great goal scorers of the world and the biggest insurance companies of the world are spread out across the countries from which they hail. So, if we had a "World Cup of Insurance", who would be the powerhouses?

Canada might be calling for an upset thanks to almost $1.2 billion from Manu-Life and Great-West Lifeco combined.
China would have a strong case for their insurance game, with China Life Insurance and Ping An Insurance combining for over $1.8 billion.
France could stay in the running with AXA and CNP over $1.2 billion between them.
Germany would be pushing down the field with Allianz alone, but they'd need some help to score beyond their star's $1.1 billion.
Japan would likely go viral again, this time behind $1.6 billion from the Nippon Life, Japan Post Insurance, and Dai-Chi Life totals.
U.K. would need a little help once Legal & General and Aviva finished their run with $1.1 billion.
USA would have a better shot here than on the pitch, as AIG, Berkshire Hathaway, MetLife, and Prudential combine for about $3 billion on their own.
Who would have your bet?

It has been 300+ years for Lloyd’s! At its London headquarters, not far from the 17th-century coffee house it was founded in, its underwriters handle ~10% of the world’s marine insurance and over 33% of war risk coverage, per The New York Times. Today that includes ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, premiums for which have soared since the start of the war. Via The Hustle newsletter
